Choosing The Right Dumper | Dumper Sales and Exports

If you are looking for Dumper sales and exports in the UK? We look at what you need to know about choosing the right Dumper.

Which Dumper is the Right Vehicle for My Project?

The success of any large-scale construction project hinges on using your budget in the most effective way possible. An excellent way of achieving this is to improve your project's working efficiency by using the right construction machinery.

The right dumper hire can ensure your project runs smoothly, allowing you to achieve your project goals more quickly through better on-site waste disposal.

Dumpers and self-loading shovels have a solid reputation for helping with waste removal and material transfer requirements.

No matter whether you need to move soil, bricks or construction rubble, dumpers provide a reliable and efficient method of movement that reduces your reliance on manual labour, freeing up your workforce to concentrate on completing the project.

Using motorised dumpers to remove waste and rubbish from your work helps you save time, energy and money, making it quicker and easier to perform removal jobs and clear your site once your project is finished.

Dumpers on the market are available in various sizes, so you can always find the perfect dumper for your project, whether you have limited space or not.

Mini Dumper Hire

Mini dumpers are your best option if your project site has limited space or you need a lightweight solution. Their smaller size and tight turning circle mean they can negotiate the tightest of spaces whilst helping you to move large quantities of heavy material safely. The driver's seating in the cabin is also adjustable for maximum comfort, alongside the larger foot pedals and simple controls.

Mini dumpers are often four-wheel drive vehicles, meaning they can easily handle most terrains.

You even have the option of attaching road lights to your mini dumper and, so long as it is appropriately insured, you can take the dumper out onto public roads.

A single lever controls the bucket, making it simple and easy to operate effectively.

1-tonne dumper hire is often the best option when your project site is relatively small. While this might sound like a small vehicle from its operating weight, they still have a lifting capacity of 1,000 kilograms.

Most small dumpers have a high tipping point, meaning they are perfect for gathering waste materials and disposing of them into skips.

Larger mini dumpers have operating weights of up to 3 tonnes if your project is significant and requires greater waste removal capacity.

Large Dumper Hire

If you are working on a major construction project or any big job, you're going to need a large dumper. The main features of these larger dumpers are their operating weights of 6 tonnes and upwards, with all models providing all of the lifting and waste removal capacity you could want.

Again, these essential vehicles are four-wheel drive, with large rubber wheels or rubber tracks for extra grip, perfect for worksites with more demanding contexts, such as those covered in slick mud or uneven ground.

The hydraulic controls are simple to use, making the heavy loads you haul easy to dispose of.

Larger dumpers are perfect when paired with large excavators that churn up a lot of waste material that needs to be transported away from the excavation area.

The increased heaped load volume capacity means greater efficiency for your project, the ultimate goal of the dumper's job.

Larger dumpers also have a tight turning circle, meaning your operator can manoeuvre the dumper easily through the site, with minimal turning and reversing required.

Again, this will help to speed up your project's timescale. This reduction in the need to move around too much can also help keep the ground surface of your worksite in good condition.

Do I Need A License To Drive A Dumper?

For anyone to legally drive small dumper trucks in the UK, they need a Cat B car driving licence. However, suppose you want to become a professional dumper driver. In that case, you must have a CPCS licence (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) for smaller dumpers and a Cat C car drivers licence for larger dumpers over 3,500 kilograms.

These regulations are the same for all large vehicles, requiring you to have a Cat C licence to operate them legally. However, larger vehicles and dumpers will most likely only be needed on very large construction projects. Therefore, if your project is not that big, you may be able to manage using a smaller dumper.

What Is The Payload Of A Dumper?

The largest dumper vehicle produced can have a payload of up to 10 tonnes (a.k.a. 11 US short tonnes and 9.8 UK long tonnes).

Most dumper models comprise an articulated vehicle with pivot steering in the centre of the dump body.

The middle of the chassis pivots as the vehicle turns around, providing more than adequate steering. They are sometimes fitted with turbocharged, multi-cylinder engines for extra power.

To assist with good manoeuvrability, they have electric starting capacities and hydraulic systems to assist with tipping and steering the four-wheel drive vehicle.

Most larger dumper vehicles will also need to be fitted with safety features, such as ROPS systems (Roll-Over Protection). These mostly comprise an A-frame structure being installed over the cab of the dumper to protect the operator if the vehicle should roll over.

FOPS systems (Falling Object Protection) and FOPS approved roof rollbars can also be installed above the cab to further protect the driver operating the vehicle while on a construction site, ensuring driver safety.

You can also find lifting skips available when considering dumpers for your project.

These vehicles can dump waste easily above ground level, helping your project run efficiently and safely.

They are especially useful in tight spaces, such as alleyways or roads, given that the rotating skip can be tipped sideways when emptying.

What Is The Purpose Of A Dumper?

As previously mentioned, you are most likely to find dumper trucks on construction sites. They are mainly used to transport loose materials and waste quickly throughout the site to wherever it is needed or being disposed of.

The materials most often transported using dumpers are building materials such as sand, gravel and other aggregates or waste materials, like soil.

Most dumpers have skips installed on their fronts, in which they carry the materials they are to transport. Using a hydraulic control system, the skip can be tipped in various directions to dump the materials wherever they are needed.

Modern dumpers have a variety of uses, depending on the project they are being used in and the materials they need to transport.

A selection of the industries that use dumpers most often include:

Construction Sector

Agricultural and Mining Sectors

Winter Services

Infrastructure (building roads, bridges, dams, tunnels etc.)

The size and lifting capacity of dumper vehicles differs greatly between different models. However, the amount of material that the dumper can haul and carry is determined by the truck bed itself.

So this, alongside other essential factors like the weights and maximum load volumes of the materials you need to transport, should be your key criteria when deciding which dumper vehicle you need.

For example, you can hire or purchase dumpers in the following sizes:

Mini dumpers/skip loaders

Light - 1 tonne to 3.5 tonnes maximum capacity

Medium - 3.5 tonnes to 7.5 tonnes maximum capacity

180° tipping dumpers

Tracked Dumpers
